Western North Carolina is effectively the East Coast capital of craft brewing. While there are several craft breweries already in this region, there is one company that has surpassed others in the craft beer market in terms of quality brews and rapid growth: Hi-Wire Brewing.

Hi-Wire opened its doors in June of 2013 with a focus on producing approachable craft beer styles that can be appreciated by a wide range of consumers. Hi-Wire’s selection includes four beers produced year-round, including Hi-Wire Lager, Prime Time Pale Ale, Bed of Nails Brown Ale, and Hi-Pitch IPA, as well as rotating seasonal selections. Hi-Wire’s beers are sold in its tasting room, centrally located in Downtown Asheville, as well as via wholesale distribution throughout most of the state of North Carolina.

In its short time in the North Carolina craft beer market, Hi-Wire Brewing has been a true innovator. As a result of their hard work and instantly recognizable quality, Hi-Wire was named both the Best New Brewery in North Carolina for 2013 by Ratebeer and won the most medals in the 2014 North Carolina Brewer’s Cup competition.

Along with their whirlwind success and exponential growth in a matter of less than two years, co-owners Adam Charnack and Chris Frosaker recognized the need to expand their business. They sought an SBA 7a loan for business expansion from one of our Business Development Officer at FNB Small Business Finance. With the BDO’s high level of expertise in SBA lending, he put together a successful plan for the business to ensure their expansion needs were met.

Adam had this to say about his experience working with our BDO:

The overall process for obtaining our business expansion loan was great! Our BDO speaks our language and understands our concerns. He was also very forthright throughout the process – being both candid and setting realistic expectations throughout the underwriting process. FNB Small Business Finance made sure everything was running smoothly and that all transitions between and amongst departments were seamless and comfortable. The team made sure we hit our deadlines and targets.

With funds provided by the SBA-backed loan, Hi-Wire Brewing is planning to open a new 26,000-square-foot production facility in Asheville. The building is uniquely equipped to support the planned 30-barrel brewhouse and will be named, “The Big Top.” Through his SBA financing experience, he was able to secure the capital that the folks at Hi-Wire needed to accommodate their ever-growing business.

If you live in Asheville, or if you’re planning to visit soon, make sure you stop by and experience the world-class taste of craft brews done right.
